Description

BaseCrete

Basecrete compatible polystyrene blocks

  GREEN KIT WHITE KIT

BaseCrete, sealing and finishing coating applicable on a large number of supports such as shuttering block, tiles, cement coating, polystyrene, metal, glazing and others. Contents of a kit The BaseCrete kit includes 2 products: 1 bucket of 18.9 liters of “milk” and 3 or 4 bags of powder of 22.67 kg. BaseCrete can be applied by roller, brush, trowel, squeegee or spray gun. The kit of approximately 90 or 110kg covers 19 to 22m2 for a thickness of 3mm, i.e. approximately 5kg per m2.

1- Preparation of the mixture:

Basecrete preparation

Depending on the mode of application, you will make a thick or liquid mixture. You will need to add more liquid or more powder to achieve the desired texture of your mixture.

– If you want to make repairs, grooves between the slab and the walls or apply Basecrete in thickness, it is better to make a thicker mixture. For application by roller, parging gun or to achieve a smooth finish, prefer a creamy mixture.

Basecrete preparation.

2- Application of the mixture: To know how to apply the mixture, it is necessary to identify the type of support:

– On a porous surface, the mixture is applied with a long-haired roller, a parging gun, a brush or a swimming pool trowel. Moisten the porous surface before applying.

– On a smooth surface such as tiles, glass, plastic, polystyrene, it is best to apply the first coat with a parging gun in order to cover the entire surface with a thin coat of BaseCrete.

– You can apply the following coats with a spray gun, a long-haired roller, a parging gun, a brush, or a swimming pool trowel.

– Note however that it is not compulsory to use a pistol. Application on a smooth surface can be done with a roller or a brush. It will be necessary to deposit BaseCrete by dabbing the product on the support. As soon as the BaseCrete is dry, it will hang perfectly on the support and it will be possible to apply another layer.

basecrete application

Small precision on the compressor to be used for an application with a parging gun: it is imperative to use a compressor with an air renewal of at least 400 litres/minute.

To know when to apply a second coat, test the hardness of BaseCrete with your fingernail. If the nail does not mark the BaseCrete, you can apply the second coat.

Plaster gun application:

– All layers of BaseCrete can be applied with a parging gun. The use of the Curry trowel for the last coat of finish is not necessary if you are covering BaseCrete with another finish.

Application by roller:

– Use rollers with long hairs in order to deposit approximately 1.5mm per layer. The mixture should be a little runny. Cross the layers in order to deposit the coating on the entire support. Carrying out a careful application allows the surface to be straightened and the next coat to be prepared.

Application with a swimming pool trowel:

– Apply with a swimming pool trowel without pressing down, with a light gesture in order to smooth as well as possible and avoid making marks. Wanting to crush BaseCrete by pressing hard will have the effect of burning the coating and marking it.

3- Details:

– 3mm (5kg/m2) are necessary and sufficient to obtain perfect watertightness for your pool. Provide a groove reinforced with a fine weave fiberglass mesh. Proceed in this way also when 2 materials are different (metal with concrete, polystyrene with concrete, plastic with concrete). If your support moves, the reinforcement with the BaseCrete coating will accept the ground movement.

– It is possible to apply BaseCrete directly to shuttering blocks (breeding blocks). To avoid joint spectra, apply 5mm thickness or a quick setting smoothing or preparative filler (Sika, Lanko, Weber or T-mix) to reduce costs.

– For application on tiles, provide more BaseCrete. It will take 3 mm thickness on the tiles and also fill the joints. If some tiles are in danger of falling, reinforce the backing with the fiberglass mesh.

-The BaseCrete coating is a mixture of powder and polymers. The mixture does not react like any other coating that you would normally apply. You have to prepare the mixture according to the application temperature: the hotter it is, the less mixture you prepare. It is preferable to be at least 2 on a site, the ideal is to be 3. If the mixture hardens, never add water to it. Simply add the milk provided and mix again to obtain a mixture that can be applied again. In case of strong heat add concrete retarder in order to obtain more time of application, above 30°C, carry out the application at night. It is generally found that professionals carry out the application of a swimming pool up to 100m2 during the day (on fine coating, 5kg/m2, straight support, average temperature).

– As regards the application on the polystyrene blocks, the joints must be reinforced with the fiberglass mesh (4mm grid) as well as the angles between the slab and the walls. Spray the BaseCrete coating with the parging gun as for the tiles then apply the other coats with the swimming pool trowel.

– Remember to protect your terraces, copings, parts to be sealed and other supports. Until BaseCrete is dry, spatter can be removed with a sponge and water. Once dry, it will be very difficult to remove, the same for tools, trowels, trowels, rollers, plaster gun nozzles. BaseCrete adheres to all substrates. It is imperative to clean the application equipment as soon as possible, without waiting, at the risk of not being able to remove the coating from the equipment.

– Regarding smoothing with a sponge or a sponge trowel (individual):

Prepare in a bucket a mixture containing 50% BaseCrete milk and 50% water. Wait for the coating to pull before smoothing with a sponge. Be careful to adapt to the temperature of the day. In the morning, the BaseCrete coating will take longer to set and be smoothed than in the afternoon when it is warmer. Floating with the sponge causes the grains to rise, wait for the coating to pull a little, take a white cloth to drop these grains, the support will then be smooth.

– It is still preferable to smooth the coating with the Curry trowel, which is a flexible tool that allows you to achieve a smooth coating, moreover, it is faster and easier to achieve. I remind you that by mixing the product as often as possible in the last coat, the finish will be easier and even more qualitative.

Basecrete

Important things to remember:

  • Apply thin layers 1mm thick
  • Dampen porous substrates o
  • Apply with a soft trowel such as a Curry brand trowel (order it)
  • Wait until the coating is hard under the nail before applying another layer
  • Reinforce with a 4mm fiberglass frame each time you have two different materials or if the structure has been poured in several times (example: slab and wall)
  • Thoroughly clean tools before the coating dries
  • 'The product must be stored frost free o BaseCrete can be stored for 2 years in a dry environment
  • For areas where pollution is high, it is possible to glue tiles at the water line, apply a protective product of your choice or apply a polyurethane paint with hardener to facilitate cleaning.
  • BaseCrete is applicable for waterproofing and finishing, but can be covered with tiles, paint, a finish of your choice (carry out a test beforehand) or another decorative coating of your choice.
  • Basecrete is compatible with hydrochloric and sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide (active oxygen), chlorine, salt electrolysis, chlorine, bromine

– As a finishing coat, mix the filler very often in the bucket to aerate it, it will be easier to smooth.

How to achieve a homogeneous mixture when adding pigments? Pour the liquid into a bucket, add the pigments, mix then add the powder, mix then add pigments if necessary to obtain the right shade. The color of the mixture obtained in the bucket will be the same as in your swimming pool once in water. This shade search is important: take care to weigh the different ingredients so that you can reproduce the mixtures in the same way. Once the color has been validated, make a note on a document of the weight of each ingredient. Then all you have to do is weigh the different products in 3 different buckets (1 bucket for the liquid, 1 bucket for the powder and 1 bucket for the pigments. Mark with a marker or orange construction tape, the level reached to always obtain and reproduce the same dosages. Be sure to use pigments based on iron oxide. Always mix the pigments with the liquid and then add the powder. –
